A huge food and flowers market, Paloquemao offers a great insight into the life and customs of Bogotanos. The market is divided into different outdoors and indoors sections: Fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, flowers… The most interesting is the outdoor flower market, get there early to catch the vibes and the morning colours.

A suggestion is to get there for 7am, enjoy the early hours of the day and head into the indoor part of the market for a local breakfast including some of the freshest fruit juices you have ever tasted.

Important Stuff

Open Hours:

Every day from 3am to 12pm.

Best time to go:

Any day but Mondays – the market is dead on Mondays and there’s less to see. Also, the earlier you get there the better the experience.

Getting there:

You can take a 15 minute cab ride (under 10,000 COP) from Alegria’s Hostel or the Transmilenio bus (get off at Paloquemao station near the market). Mercado de Paloquemao is located at the intersection of Calle 19 and Carrera 27.

Expensive?

No way. You’ll find everything here at great prices and you’re expected to haggle to lower prices even more – no haggling would be very un-Colombian of you.
